New Welsh Classes at the Cambrian Hall

The Welsh Society has reformatted and relaunched its program of Welsh language instruction. Last year, a group of motivated students went through the BBC's online self-study Welsh course, Catchphrase (http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/catchphrase/). This year, we are once again offering language classes at the Hall, and both beginners and Catchphrase veterans will be welcome to improve their Welsh.

Classes will take place at the Red Dragon, downstairs at the Cambrian Hall, at 7.30 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month. The first meeting will be on September 28, followed by 26 October and 30 November. A possible December meeting and 2012 classes have not yet been scheduled. There is no charge for Welsh Society members in good standing (beyond optional refreshments purchased from the Red Dragon).

Our instructor, Dr. Antone Minard, learned Welsh at university in California, without the advantage of being Welsh, and continued his study of the language while living in Aberystwyth. Classes will begin with a short lesson, around twenty minutes, followed by fifteen minutes where all conversation is either in Welsh or about the Welsh language. One or more of the Society's native speakers will be on hand to model the language and help the dysgwyr (learners). For the remainder of the evening, participants are welcome to keep practicing their Welsh and ask further questions, or simply have a social evening at the Hall.
