Message from Wilf and Lynn Owens-Whalen:

Many have heard that Mum passed away suddenly and amazingly unexpectedly on December 22, 2011. Mum was born into and lived her entire life within the Welsh community in Vancouver. She prized her culture and most especially the many friends within the society over the years, all of which gave her great joy. With this in mind, her Welsh association will be an integral part of a celebration of her life to be held on Sunday, February 5 at 2:00 pm at West Point Grey United Church, 4595 West 8th Avenue in Vancouver. The church is on the corner of West 8th Avenue and Tolmie Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Vancouver Welsh Society Cultural Fund or West Point Grey United Church Senior's Ministry.

Fundraisers

Our own Cambrian Cookbooks for sale.

Favourite recipes of Welsh Society members in a new cookbook - now available at $10 a copy. The books will be available at society events.

DVD's for sale.

DVD's of the 2010 Noson Lawen, the 2010 Gymanfu Ganu and the 2011 Gymanfu Ganu are for sale at $4 per copy.

Songs of the Dragon

'Songs of the Dragon' has proven to be a popular acquisition for lovers of traditional Welsh songs. The book contains the music, Welsh and English words for over 70 Welsh folk songs and carols. Our recent singing star at the Gymanfa, Nerys Jones, proudly took most of her songs from it.

We hope to have Society members using and singing many of these songs at our gatherings in the coming months and years. At the recent Noson Lawen, two of the numbers were happily sung by the audience.

The 'Songs of the Dragon' is published by the Welsh National Gymanfa Ganu Association in Ohio. The Welsh Society ordered, brought in and distributed about 20 copies in April. Of late we have received 16 additional requests from individuals who wish a copy. If you wish a copy, NOW is the time to order.

Contact:- Neville Thomas 604 294 4332 nkthomas@shaw.ca

Cost :- $11 + postage and tax ( payable when you receive it )
